TYIN – POW IN APRIL – EPIC
When I mention Tyin to a lot of people they don’t know what I am talking about and often they look at me like I have no idea of what I am talking about..maybe I pronounce the name wrong, I am not sure, but either way, more people should know about this place.
Located south of Jotunheimen national park, the area is breath taking. When I first laid eyes on the place I was stoked to say the least.
The back country is extremely accessible and the snow was plenty for April, despite the locals informing us that its a really bad year for snow levels.
Myself, Petter K, Joacim Nyhagen, Togreir Berre, Daniel Tengs teamed up with Field productions Jan Petter Aarskog, Ole Mustard and Christopher Frankum for a back country booter trip.
Two friends of mine, Petter Bay Braathen and Stig Aleksander Finvold had been telling me I had to get up to Tyin for some months and said they would help me out with all the contacts I needed, man did I not realise what we were in for!
When we arrived we had been arranged a cabin that slept 35 worth more krs then I am pretty sure I will ever see in my life. To call it a “Cabin” is an under statment, this was more of a luxury get away.
As if the “Cabin” was not enough, we were also hooked up with food from the local Joker, The locals in Tyin, totally looked after us in every aspect.
After a huge hooked up serving of taco and fajitas we chilled out to get ready for the next day.
An early start to the day was in order to try get out and catch that early worm. Unfortunatly Joacim had gotten a flat tire, but that did not slow our energy, we all piled into the one car…
We drive to our spot, Berre had been there a day before and started building a jump by himself, what a guy!
After a short uphill hike from the road we got to the spot. it looked good.
Snow condition seemed a little sketchy, the base was very unstable, but everything worked out good. The pow was still really dry, it was a little wind packed but definitely not spring slush. I guess it was just below zero degrees.
4hrs and some passing clouds later we were ready to shoot. while we were building I had Petter go down to the lake with another guy and write a huge process in the snow with the sleds, it worked out pretty sweet, had to sabotage any shots field was getting with a nice sized Process in the background and it just seemed like a fun idea.
We arranged to shoot some heli and it worked out good, Kim the pilot was really good, he understood exactly what I needed and did a good job. Super stoked on the shots we got! Jan Petter shot a second angle from on the ground. While waiting for the guys to hike, Kim took me on some scenic flights around the area, breath taking!
We ended the session after the landing was bombed and headed to the local hotel and got treated by the locals to some Moose burgers and drink:
We hit up another spot that Berre and Field had already done earlier in the season, Petter K got some shots here, he almost got a stomp on a fs 12, next time!
After a long day we made full use of the full facilities at the “Cabin”, Massage chairs, Petter K was loving the Solarium…enough said, Spa pools, more good food and best of all real good company! Who could ask for any better.
The next day turned out to be completely clouded over, but after the day before everyone was pretty beat, so it was all good to just chill out.
Lastly I would like to Thank Stig, Stig Senior and Petter for helping us out with this amazing weekend and also a huge thanks to everybody in Tyin who made our weekend so good, we are so stoked on planning our next trip, cannot wait!
Enough out of me, enjoy more shots from Daniel Tengs.
